  • 1. English Laboratorio de Idiomas - FFyL Fullone Mariana G. 2015
  • 2. 1. What is Reading Comprehension? 2. What are Macro and Micro Skills? 3. What different types of text are there? 4. Why is Reading a ‘cyclical process’?
  • 3. 1. What is Reading Comprehension? According to Alderson (2000), meaning is constructed in the interaction between a reader and a text, and it is this process what we understand by “reading” proper.
  • 4. 2. What are Macro and Micro Skills? Macroskills focus on the global understanding of a particular text. Microskills deal with local or phrase-by phrase understanding.
  • 5. 3. What different types of text are there? Narrative texts are expressions of event-based experiences. Expository texts are mainly informational, convey content, and purport to induce new insights on a given topic.
  • 6. 4. Why is reading a Cyclical Process? Goodman (1971)
  • 7. Activities BEFORE READING 1. Scan the article. What type of text is it? Where and when was it published? 2. Identify the headline. What do you think the answer to this question is? Support your ideas. 3. Identify the sub-headline and caption. Read them and circle key words. What is the health dilemma we are going to read about? Write your reading hypothesis in a few lines.
  • 8. Activities WHILE READING 1. Skim the text and check your predictions. Were you right?
